Electroline EDA-2800 Amplifier

Several years ago, after we bought a High Definition TV, we found the picture to be of far lower quality than the same model on display in Myer Emco's store. After doing some research on why that would be, plus interviewing unusually helpful Comcast technicians and some friends, the reason was obvious.

Comcast's cable entered the house and went into a splitter - the output of that splitter went into other splitters, eventually feeding a cable signal to each room. The problem with this approach was every splitter significantly reduced the signal strength and having multiple splitters can noticeably degrade picture quality. Also, long coax cable runs, from the street and within the house, further weakened the signal. The signal getting to that TV was just too weak.

Comcast offered to rent an Electroline amplifier for a monthly charge, but it was more economical to buy one. Click on customer photos above to see the house wiring junction based on Comcast recommendations. (The photo doesn't show the DC transformer that comes with the amplifier - you'll need an A/C outlet close-by, where it plugs in.) Each coax line FROM the amplifier is a direct run to a wall plate location. After installing the amp, the picture quality was as good as I've ever seen, (certainly as good as in the Myer Emco store) and Internet/email worked fine on my PC. Picture quality on the other non-HD TV's also improved noticeably.

Excellent product.

Works exactly as advertised. Input a good signal and the unit splits it eight ways without any degradation. Small form factor and price point makes it a must buy.

I bought this to practice with and -- it's really an amazing little amp. Incredible value for the money. It sounds like something 8 times it's size and the amp modeling is extremely impressive.

I usually don't write reviews, but I have to spread the word on this great product.

I received this product with the corner of its shipping box significantly damaged. It had been repaired with clear tape apparently prior to shipment. Fortunately, the carton did its job and the amplifier was not damaged. I bought the amp to work in conjunction with a wireless microphone on a Native American flute. This, to provide the 'Canyon echo' effect heard on many flute CD's. Using various combinations of the controls provide not only the desired echo sound but some pleasing and unexpected additional effects. I have only used the amp on 110 volt, so don't know how long the batteries will last. My only negative comment is that I would prefer if the on/off power switch were located at the top of the unit with the rest of the control knobs rather than behind the amp. I'm very pleased with its performance. It makes my 'flute tootin' almost sound professional.

I knew nothing about amps prior to this purchase, but I spent literally days reading all I could find. While I viewed dozens of sites overall, take a look at the buying guide at sweetwater if you too are a newbie and want a good, but succinct, overview of the basics. After I understood the various options I read hundreds of reviews (I am a just a little bit on the obsessive, compulsive side if you haven't gathered that yet). The amp was a Christmas present for my son who also received a MIM Strat (that was a month-long research effort!). And yes, he is an extremely spoiled (but deserving) kid. But I didn't want to spend too much as he is a beginner, and I wasn't 100% certain he would stick with his playing. And as he goes away to college next year, portability was a definite factor. Based on all that and the great reviews I read, I decided to go with this model.

After more than two months my son is still extremely happy with it. It sounds great, has just enough good effects to mess around with, it can go PLENTY loud, and the ability to carry it up and down the stairs, to his lessons, etc is great. The batteries seemingly last forever and for a pretty small outlay, I think it possible that he doesn't buy another amp for many years.
